Former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine William Taylor urged President Donald Trump to press Russian President Vladimir Putin rather than Ukraine over the war, amid criticism of Washington's approach to Kyiv.

Taylor made the argument in an interview with CBS News. The network said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused Trump of giving Ukraine too little support while pressing it to yield to Russia.

In a separate development involving diplomacy over the war, The Wall Street Journal reported that Putin had floated talks with Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping that would exclude Zelenskyy.

The Kremlin has described the possible meeting as hypothetical. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the three leaders had no agreed plan or agenda for talks. A senior U.S. official told the Journal that Trump had made no commitment to attend.
