‘Wolverine 3’ lead actor Hugh Jackman officially wraps filming in New Mexico with director James Mangold. Meanwhile, Patrick Stewart is set to reprise his role as Professor X and teased that his character will be markedly different from before.
According to an article on On Location Vacations, filming for the yet untitled sequel in the ‘Wolverine’ franchise has finally wrapped in New Mexico after production moved from Louisiana.
Jackman recently posted a photograph of himself looking older and scruffier, with many fans speculating a possible “Old Man Logan” storyline from the original X-Men comic books. Jackman returns to play the titular protagonist Logan a.k.a. Wolverine, a mutant born with bone claws and enhanced adamantium-laced skeleton with hyper-sensitive animalistic senses.
The upcoming film is set to be Jackman’s ninth appearance as Wolverine since he was first introduced into the X-Men cinematic series in 2000’s ‘X-Men’. He later appeared in his first standalone film in 2009’s ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ as well as its sequel ‘The Wolverine’, released in 2013. Jackman made an uncredited cameo on Bryan Singer’s ‘X-Men Apocalypse’ in his Weapon X form.
The 47-year old star also posted a thank you message to the people of New Mexico, where cast and crew members filmed for the past month. It was revealed that some parts of the shoot took place at The Box Canyon Reception Area as well as in the Northern Meadows Neighborhood of Rio Rancho.
Jackman headlines an ensemble cast that includes Patrick Stewart, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Boyd Holbrook, Stephen Merchant, and Doris Morgado among others. Stewart is set to reprise his role as mutant leader Charles Xavier a.k.a. Professor X.
Stewart teased that his character will be nothing like what audiences have been used to in past releases, according to Comingsoon.net. He also admitted that he may not be staying in the franchise for long saying, “I would imagine this is probably the end of this franchise for me. But the thing about science fiction and fantasy is that you can never, ever say it’s the end, it’s over.”
‘Wolverine 3’ is an upcoming action-adventure and fantasy film scheduled to be released on March 3, 2017. It is directed by James Mangold and written for the big screen by Michael Green and David James Kelly. It is produced by Simon Kinberg, Hutch Parker, Lauren Shuler Donner, and executive produced by Joseph M. Caracciolo Jr., Stan Lee, and Josh McLaglen.
The film is intended as the sequel to 2013’s ‘The Wolverine’, which earned generally positive reviews and commercial success with $416.45 million worldwide.
