‘Wonder Woman’ Film, Updates: Director Patty Jenkins Slams Open Letter to Warner Bros. Claiming Upcoming Adaptation Is a “Mess”

‘Wonder Woman’ director Patty Jenkins slammed the controversial open letter to Warner Bros. that claimed her upcoming superhero adaptation is a “mess”. Jenkins recently addressed the letter in a series of Twitter posts and defended her film.

According to the Independent, Jenkins finally spoke out against a recent open letter to Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara that also claimed that her upcoming film was a “mess”. She took to Twitter on August 13 to defend the film saying, “Woah, just saw this press about WW having problems. Are they serious? This is some made up bs right here. Made up! Produce a source, anyone.”

Jenkins continued, “You can’t because it’s entirely false. Don’t believe the hype people. Someone’s trying to spread some serious misinfo.” In another tweet, she stated, “Isn’t until you are intimately involved in these things that you realize how totally false these rumors can. Let me reassure you...” She added, “Real lasso of truth, time, will reveal that letter to be false soon enough. But lame something so transparent in its agenda gets traction.”

The letter posted on Pajiba alleged that Tsujihara mishandled Warner Bros. cinematic properties leading to loss of livelihoods for the studio employees. It was supposedly written by a former Warner Bros. employee although its writer remains anonymous.

An excerpt from the letter read, “I was also there in 2014, when you made the decision to lay off 10 percent of your workforce. It was a terrible year.”

It ended with the scathing words, “What are you even doing? I wish to God you were forced to live out of a car until you made a #1 movie of the year. Maybe Wonder Woman wouldn't be such a mess. Don't try to hide behind the great trailer. People inside are already confirming it's another mess. It is almost impressive how you keep rewarding the same producers and executives for making the same mistakes, over and over.”

The letter was publicized following generally negative reception of David Ayer’s ‘Suicide Squad’, which was released last August 5, 2016. Zack Snyder’s ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ didn’t fare very well with fans and critics either.

According to Yahoo! Movies, Jenkins’ trailer for ‘Wonder Woman’ received fan praise upon its debut. It also began trending at the top spot on various social media sites.

Gal Gadot is set to portray Diana Prince a.k.a. Wonder Woman in the upcoming film slated to premiere in theaters next year. She is joined by Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, Robin Wright as General Antiope, and Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta. The upcoming film will follow Diana’s adventures as she leaves her home on a mission to stop the World War to become one of Earth’s greatest heroes.

‘Wonder Woman’ is an upcoming action-adventure and fantasy film based on the DC comic book character of the same name. It is intended as the fourth installment in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) and the first standalone film to feature a female superhero.

It is produced by DC Entertainment, Atlas Entertainment, Cruel & Unusual Films, and Warner Bros. It is slated to be released on June 2, 2017.
