“World of Warcraft Classic” is coming out this year and fans of the vanilla game can’t wait to get hit by the nostalgia hammer. The demo for the classic has already been previewed and the consensus is pretty much polarized.
Some of the players who were there on the first day loved “World of Warcraft Classic” and expressed their excitement for the game, while others were scratching their heads at the clunky game mechanics. Most of the confusion stems from the lack of mini-map, a sentiment that hardcore players know all too well, TechRadar reported.
As such, most who played the demo of “World of Warcraft Classic” were left to explore the vast map of the game, trying to hunt down the enemies that their quest has given them. While this may deter modern gamers, Blizzard will still implement most of these mechanics to produce that nostalgic feelings players had more than a decade ago.
Brian Birmingham and Omar Gonzalez has highlighted this fact and said that the environment of “World of Warcraft Classic” will be harsher compared to its modern counterpart, Computer Bild reported. Birmingham went on to elaborate just how daunting the vanilla game will be.
“Leaving the city was terrifying! Even a harmless looking creature could pose an extraordinary challenge… In Classic, you are a newcomer to adventure who has a lot to learn in a dangerous and hostile world. This difficulty drives you to rely on other players to help you – and that, in turn, strengthens the emerging social connections,” Birmingham said. It’s for this reason that hardcore players are excited for “World of Warcraft Classic.”
Indeed, one of the oldest memes on the web has been produced by the vanilla game. Leroy Jenkins rose into fame when he recklessly dived into a dungeon while the raid leader was trying to delegate tasks. This resulted in the party getting completely wiped and thus the meme was born. And with “World of Warcraft Classic” staying faithful as to how it was back in the day, there’s no doubt that hilarious interactions, such as Leroy’s shenanigans, will take place once again. As for when gamers can play the vanilla, it’s been slated to go live in the summer of 2019.
