‘XXX: The Return of Xander Cage’ actress Deepika Padukone Reveals Minimalist Poster of Character Serena Unger, Hopes Indian Stars Take More Chances in Hollywood

‘XXX: The Return of Xander Cage’, otherwise known as ‘XXX 3’, recently debuted a minimalist character poster of Deepika Padukone’s Serena Unger. Padukone is set to portray the series’ latest leading lady alongside Vin Diesel. The actress hoped that more Indian stars would try out opportunities in Hollywood.

According to Hindustan Times, Padukone shared an image of her own character poster for the upcoming third installment in the ‘XXX’ action franchise on her Instagram account. It featured a minimalist take on her female lead Serena Unger with the words “I don’t believe in good guys” emblazoned across her face.

She plays the seductress Serena opposite Vin Diesel as he returns for a second time to play the lead protagonist Xander Cage. Serena is the upcoming film’s latest leading lady and is portrayed as an ambitious woman with a love-hate relationship with Xander.

The 30-year old Indian film actress is one of the nation’s highest paid and most attractive celebrities. She garnered numerous accolades for her roles in feature films such as 2013’s ‘Cocktail’, 2013’s ‘Chennai Express’, 2015’s ‘Piku’, and 2015’s ‘Bajirao Mastani’. She is set to make her international film debut in D.J. Caruso’s action-thriller film alongside Diesel.

According to The Hindu, Padukone admitted that she treats offered film projects the same way. She said, "For me I do not treat a film as coming from Hollywood or Bollywood. It's the script I read first. I need to know if I will love doing it and it’s only after that I take up roles. I will take up roles when they excite me or when I am ready. This experience is special for me and I am very excited about it."

When asked about the differences between Western cinema and the Indian film industry, she replied, “The journey of Indian cinema has been amazing. The growth be it technically, content, or in the films we are on par with Hollywood. It was so comforting to know I did not miss anything."

According to another article on India.com, Padukone hoped that fellow Indian talents would to try out acting opportunities in Hollywood. She added, “As an actor I don’t think I was ready for the challenge before. You have to look everything that you get as an opportunity. There is no role that’s too small or big. It is all about what you make of the opportunity.”

She admitted that she always wanted to film a big action movie at certain points in her career. She said, “Sometimes certain things happen to you know when they are supposed to. Most importantly, it is an action film and I haven’t done one since ‘Chandni Chowk to China’. I treated the film like I would treat any other project… It is not like it is a Hollywood film so you would do some different performance. As an actor, at the end of the day, you want to challenge yourself. You want to do different things.”

‘XXX: The Return of Xander Cage’, otherwise known as ‘XXX 3’, is an upcoming action-thriller film directed by D.J. Caruso and written by F. Scott Frazier and Chad St. John. It is scheduled to be released on January 20, 2017.

The third film follows 2002’s ‘XXX’ and 2005’s ‘XXX: State of the Union’. Although the franchise began as a financial success, the sequel underperformed at the box office and grossed $71 million against a production budget of $87 million.
