Al Jazeera reported Oct. 20 that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned a speed cap on SpaceX’s Starshield service was disrupting Ukraine’s early-warning air-defense systems.
The report described Starshield as a defense service under Pentagon control and connected to SpaceX’s Starlink network. It also said the U.S. government had not explained what prompted the restriction. SpaceX says Starshield serves government customers and uses technology developed for Starlink, which it offers to consumers and businesses.
Earlier EconoTimes coverage attributed a 160 km/h threshold for Starshield terminals to Ukrainian defense technology adviser Serhii Beskrestnov. The 160 km/h threshold concerns terminal movement, not internet data speed. EconoTimes has also covered Ukrainian reports of satellite service limits affecting drone use and military resupply.
