'Avengers: Infinity War' Film Updates: Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange Plays "Very Important Role"

Benedict Cumberbatch plays Doctor Strange in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

‘Avengers: Infinity War’ is set to feature Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange in a “very important role” as hinted by Marvel head and producer Kevin Feige. Meanwhile, Tom Holland expressed his doubts on his Spider-Man’s involvement in the upcoming superhero team-up film.

According to Moviepilot, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige hinted that Cumberbatch’s Sorcerer Supreme may have a huge role in the upcoming ‘Avengers’ films, including the upcoming ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ directed by Joe and Anthony Russo. Feige specifically said, “... a very, very important role in the [Marvel] Cinematic Universe going forward... [he will be in] many upcoming films, including the next Avengers films.”

Cumberbatch is set to make his outing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) first standalone film for the superhero Doctor Strange on November 4, 2016. He will play Stephen Strange, a top neurosurgeon who loses the use of his hands following a car accident. He then travels to Nepal to train in the mystic arts to become the iconic superhero.

On the other hand, it seems that Tom Holland’s Peter Parker a.k.a. Spider-Man will not be joining the superhero team up in the Russo brothers’ film. According to Collider, the 20-year old English actor expressed his doubts over his involvement saying, “It’s all up in the air… I believe some sort of deal is in the mix, but I’m unclear as to what that deal is.”

Holland was first introduced into the MCU as the popular web slinger in the Russo brothers’ ‘Captain America: Civil War’ after being recruited into Iron Man’s team. He is set to star in his own standalone film, ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’, slated to premiere in U.S. theaters on July 7, 2017.

According to another Geeks of Doom, Holland talked about his solo outing in the massive franchise during promotion for ‘The Lost City of Z’. He said, “My next project, I can’t tell you about, but we’ve just finished ‘Spider-Man’ and we’re talking about the second one and who the villain is going to be and where we’re going.”

‘Avengers: Infinity War’ is an upcoming action-adventure and superhero film directed by Joe and Anthony Russo. It is written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

The film is produced by Kevin Feige with Victoria Alonso, Louis D’Esposito, Jon Favreau, Alan Fine, and Stan Lee executive producing. It is scheduled to be released on May 4, 2018.
