Lauren Samuelsson is a 3rd year PhD candidate at the University of Wollongong, Australia. Her PhD thesis focuses on the Australian Women’s Weekly magazine and cookbooks and its role in the development of Australian food culture during its first fifty years of publication. Her research interests lay in cultural history, the history of popular culture and the history of food and drink. Her work on the social and cultural complexities of six o’clock closing has been published in History Australia. In 2018, she was awarded the Ken Inglis Prize for the best postgraduate paper presented at the annual conference of the Australian Historical Association. That paper, which looks at the significance of mock food in Australia, has now been published in Australian Historical Studies.
