Researcher & Post-doc in Human Nutrition, University of Pretoria

Nicolette Hall recently completed her PhD in human nutrition at the University of Pretoria. She is employed as a research consultant at the Department of Animal and Wildlife Sciences at the University of Pretoria, and is also a post-doc student at the Institute of Food, Nutrition and Well-being at the University of Pretoria.

Her research focus is on nutrient composition foods and the role thereof in human nutrition, as well as the extrapolation of research findings into consumer friendly messages. She has generated numerous popular outputs as part of the consumer education campaign of Lamb and Mutton South Africa, including a book entitled: Red Meat in Nutrition in Health (2012) which contains condensed chapters reviewing the most recent scientific evidence related to red meat intake and pressing topics in human health such as obesity, hypertension and cancer. In 2014 she co-authored two supplementary chapters to this book focused on red meat in pregnancy and red meats’ role in sport. She has furthermore published more than 15 peer reviewed scientific articles in accredited journals. She has presented at more than 40 national and international conferences, where she won two conference contribution awards in 2013.
