I've been Professor of Marketing at Royal Holloway University of London since 2004. My PhD was from Strathclyde University Department of Marketing, and I also holds degrees in psychology, education and business studies. My research and teaching involve critical and cultural perspectives on marketing, particularly advertising and promotion, and consumer culture. My media appearances include interviews about binge drinking and UK alcohol policy on Channel 4 News, BBC Breakfast, ITV Tonight and BBC Radio 4's Thinking Allowed, and about Ofcom's regulation of TV product placement on BBC Radio 4's You and Yours. Research I've been involved with on alcohol policy, media strategy and regulation has been covered in many national newspapers and I've consulted on related topics with media and government bodies including Channel 4, Sky Media and the UK Government Cabinet Office. I've written occasional features and opinion pieces connected to education, research and marketing for outlets including Times Higher, Admap, the Psychologist, and various online publications. The fourth edition of my text book Advertising and Promotion (now co-authored with R.A.Hackley) will be published by Sage in late 2017.
