eBay is preparing to notify employees affected by a planned cut of about 9% of its workforce in the coming days, its second layoff round this year as it redirects staffing toward business priorities.

The company confirmed the plan on Oct. 21. eBay CEO Jamie Iannone outlined the reduction in a staff memo, which gave no date for when the cuts would take effect.

An eBay spokesperson told CNBC the plan covers about 1,000 jobs, as noted in earlier EconoTimes coverage of the layoffs. The company said the reduction would focus its teams on its business priorities. It also plans to keep hiring for positions tied to its strategy.

In February, eBay announced a plan to eliminate about 800 jobs, equivalent to 6% of its workforce at the time. The online marketplace employed about 12,300 people globally at the end of 2025; about 7,200 worked in the United States.

Iannone’s memo said affected employees would receive notice in the coming days.
