The company – which offers 19 science course subjects to higher education institutions to provide a traditional hands-on laboratory experience for immersive online and blended learning – has launched a new year-long project that will significantly reduce the amount of cardboard required to safeguard and protect the learning materials inside its lab kits.
The new sustainable packaging initiative will reduce the cardboard in lab kits by approximately 70,000 pounds a year. That’s equivalent to more than three garbage trucks, 14 dumpsters or seven cargo containers.
“We’ve always focused on green initiatives with our packaging – using recycled materials whenever we could.” said Ken Bronson, operations manager for eScience Labs. “Our new boxes will certainly continue these practices, but we’ve also managed to decrease the amount of materials that are needed. That’s cardboard that won’t need to be recycled or end up as waste.”
The environmentally friendly packaging features:
- Recycled/sustainable materials – better for the environment.
- Sturdy construction for added protection.
- Ergonomically designed for easy handling.
- Safety information listed for peace of mind.
The eScience Labs sustainability initiative focused on developing new lab kits boxes that were higher quality and more durable. The Colorado-produced boxes were designed to protect contents and ensure that educational materials arrive safe and secure for students. Attention to detail in the design phase and additional emphasis placed on protection ensure that the shipping and fulfillment process is streamlined.
“eScience Labs has an excellent track record of quality and the added-protection these new boxes offer ensures that we keep it that way,” Bronson said. “With lightning fast shipping and a focus on detail, our fulfillment program can go a long way to ensure that students have what they need - when they need it!”
As the industry leader in curriculum and coverage, eScience Labs is now forging the way in sustainability and shipping. In addition to reducing the amount of cardboard needed, eScience Labs’ new, ergonomically configured lab kit boxes are constructed with renewable materials, soy-based ink and clearly identified safety icons. Each kit is carefully packed utilizing recycled packing supplies.
It’s one more way eScience Labs is dedicated to serving students and instructors better!
