It is difficult to anticipate most of an upcoming iPhone's specifications until information leaks out. However, forecasting the release date is much simpler because Apple tends to follow a pattern.
As a result, even though there have not been any official leaks on the release date of the iPhone 16, we can make a reasonable guess as to when these phones, which include the iPhone 16 itself, the iPhone 16 Plus, the iPhone 16 Pro, and the iPhone 16 Pro Max, are most likely to be released.
iPhone 16 announcement date predictions
Apple usually announces new iPhones in September, with the iPhone 15 series, for example, unveiled on September 12, 2023.
More specifically, the company tends to make its announcements during either the first or second week of September, and its preferred day is a Tuesday. So, the most likely announcement date this year is either September 3 or September 10.
However, sometimes Apple holds its events on a Wednesday instead, so September 4 and 11 are also possible announcement dates.
Of course, it’s always possible that Apple will break with tradition this year. It did so before, such as when the iPhone 12 line was announced in October of its release year.
But that seems unlikely, especially since iPhone 16 production was reportedly on schedule as of May at least, so there would be no apparent reason for a delay. So, for now, the dates above are our best guesses, with September 3 or 10 being the most likely.
iPhone 16 pre-order date predictions
It is customary for Apple to begin accepting pre-orders for its newest mobile devices on the Friday of the week they are introduced. If the firm announces the iPhone 16 line on September 3 or 4, then pre-orders are likely to begin on September 6.
On the other hand, if the phones are announced on September 10 or 11, you may anticipate that pre-orders will begin on September 13.
This prediction assumes that our projections regarding the announcement date are accurate. If Apple decides to launch the iPhone 16 on a different day than originally planned, the pre-order date will likely be altered.
iPhone 16 shipping date predictions
Additionally, Apple follows a consistent pattern for the day its new phones are shipped and made available for general purchase, as per TechRadar. Usually, this occurs one week after the pre-orders have been opened.
Therefore, if the pre-orders for the iPhone 16 begin on September 6, as was stated earlier, then it is likely that the iPhone 16 will be available for purchase on Friday, September 13. On the other hand, if pre-orders begin on September 13, the phones may be sent the following Friday, September 20.
However, this is based on the assumption that our projections regarding the pre-order date are correct, which presupposes our predictions regarding the announcement date are accurate. Consequently, there is a possibility that Apple will stray from these dates.
We anticipate that all four models will be announced at the same time, and based on the company's previous performance, there is a very good probability that they will all ship at the same time as well.
Only if Apple experiences production problems, as was the case with the iPhone 12 series, for instance, where the iPhone 12 small and the iPhone 12 Pro Max did not ship until over a month after the other models, is it possible that they will not be released.
Even though there have been no reports of any production concerns with the iPhone 16 series up to this point, we are not currently anticipating any delays for any of the respective models.
