Rumors about Apple’s next line of Mac products having some revolutionary keyboard setups have been swirling around the internet recently and they may actually have some substance to them. It would seem that Apple representatives did meet with members a startup company under Foxconn called Sonder Keyboard. The startup is responsible for the keyboard that has dynamic E-Ink technology, which allows users to customize the interface based on their preference.

Sonder confirmed that the discussions with the representatives from Apple did take place, 9To5Mac reports, and assisting in the negotiations will be both Foxconn International Holdings and E Ink Holdings. This moves the talks regarding the next line of MacBooks by Apple sporting new keyboards closer towards the truth.

Then again, it could very well turn out that Apple just wants to make sure external keyboards equipped with the technology will be compatible with the devices. The company is notorious for its secretive nature, after all.

What started the rumors about the new keyboard is actually a Reddit post by the aptly named “Foxconninsider”, which talked about Apple’s potential use of the technology, Trusted Reviews reports. The publication has since confirmed that this was indeed the case with both Sonder and Apple.

“Sonder has been in discussions with Apple’s procurement board regarding Sonder’s laptop module,” an Apple spokesperson had said. “Foxconn International Holdings and E Ink Holdings – both strategic partners of Sonder Design Pty. Ltd. are assisting with the above discussions."

Regarding the Sonder keyboard itself, the company posted a video, explaining exactly what the device can do. Basically, users can choose what other functions the keyboards can do based on how they use them instead of getting stuck with the boring old commands as keyboards have always had. If they wanted to fill the keys with only emojis, for example, they can.
