If there is an award for the best fanbase, it should be given to the avid supporters of “Alita: Battle Angel 2.” They have now proven that their efforts will go beyond online petitions and making #AlitaSequel trend on social media. And what better way to show it than during the Oscars 2020.
‘Alita: Battle Angel 2’: Can fans convince Disney to make the sequel?
As reported previously, fans demanding the production of “Alita: Battle Angel 2” have chipped in through a GoFundMe initiative for the printing of a banner. As planned, they had it hovering above the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, where the 92nd Academy Awards took place.

The said GoFundMe campaign quickly raised the needed $1,810 for the printing of the banner and have it fly over the Oscars 2020 venue. But the fundraising page is still live as fans now bring their effort toward a charitable cause with a new goal set at $15,000. Fans behind the campaign will partner with Open Bionics, a Bristol, United Kingdom-based company that works on providing affordable bionic limbs for amputees.
It can be recalled that co-producer Jon Landau once advised the Alita Army to show Disney that they are willing to support “Alita: Battle Angel 2” if the sequel is eventually confirmed. That obviously meant proving Disney that turning it into a movie series is a worthy investment.
The first movie was released last year under the distribution of 20th Century Fox. But people attached to the making of the film have confirmed that the decision to make “Alita: Battle Angel 2” is now carried over to Disney following the acquisition of 20th Century Fox in March 2019.
‘Alita: Battle Angel 2’ plot possibilities: Where is Alita going next
While the making of the sequel is still unknown, Alita’s (Rosa Salazar) next adventure is much easier to predict. The first movie’s final sequence showed the titular character dominating the Motorball, and winning the tournament means she earns the ticket to go to Zalem.
While Alita celebrates, she raised her weapon, pointing to the city above them where a smirking Nova (Edward Norton) appeared. It very clearly suggests that “Alita: Battle Angel 2” would revolve around her potential arrival in Zalem and facing Nova.
