People attached to the making of the first movie have all confirmed that “Alita: Battle Angel 2” is not officially in the books yet. However, the 2019 film left fans with enough story to deduce what could happen next for the titular protagonist portrayed by Rosa Salazar.
‘Alita: Battle Angel 2’ plot: Alita is most likely going to Zalem
Reaching Zalem is practically a dream passed on to Alita by her love interest, Hugo (Keean Johnson), who met his demise at the end of the first film. Hugo grew up dreaming of moving to Zalem, but it was later revealed that the only way to reach the place is by winning the Motorball tournament.
While the first movie had a satisfying conclusion, its final scene was open-ended, with Alita being the reigning Motorball champion. After winning her match, Alita raised her weapon and pointed it to the sky where Zalem is. Nova (Edward Norton) briefly appeared smirking down on Alita. This scene was a very telling hint that, if “Alita: Battle Angel 2” gets made, Alita would be facing and fighting Nova directly.
Alita’s skills and her newly built robot body makes her an invincible warrior. This means that there is virtually nothing that can stop her from winning the tournament. This gives more weight to the possibility that “Alita: Battle Angel 2” could be set mostly in Zalem.
However, it would be too predictable if the sequel would only revolve around Alita’s desire for revenge. Aside from reaching Zalem, further exploring Alita’s past as a member of a powerful army roop. The first movie revolved greatly on Alita discovering her true identity but ended without giving all the answers. It is then very possible for this theme to make a comeback in “Alita: Battle Angel 2.”
‘Alita: Battle Angel 2’ production: Is there a chance for the sequel to be made?
There is no doubt that the story of the movie franchise could continue for “Alita: Battle Angel 2” and even for even more installments since it was based on a ‘90s manga series “Gunnm” with over 50 chapters. But the more important question is if Disney and 20th Century Fox would greenlight the sequel project. Fans are obviously not losing hope yet, but the fate of “Alita: Battle Angel 2” might not be resolved in the near future.
