‘Arrow’ Season 5 Updates: Stephen Amell Teases New Villain, Wants to Focus Solely on Superpower-less Star City; Season 4 Finale Flops

Stephen Amell plays Oliver Queen a.k.a. Green Arrow on 'Arrow'

‘Arrow’ lead actor Stephen Amell teased that a new villain will be introduced into the series. He also admitted that he would like the show to focus solely on Star City as well as a less magic for its characters. Meanwhile, season 4 reportedly disappointed fans with poor execution.

According to Screen Crush, Amell expressed his hopes over a new season that would go back to the show’s central elements calling for a more “back to basics” approach to storytelling.

He said, “I don’t know [about 'The Flash' finale]. I do know that we’ve done a lot of work on Arrow to introduce the other shows, for lack of a better term, and now that that’s all done, we’re focused on doing the things that we do well for Season 5 … Arrow is at its best when we’re dealing with problems in Star City.”

Amell added, “We’re not a time-travel show, we’re not a multi-Earth show, though obviously [we do that] with crossovers and stuff like that. We’re Arrow, we deal with Star City, and I feel like we’ll be better off focusing on that.”

The 35-yead old lead actor also hoped for less magic for the incoming season, according to another article on Entertainment Weekly. He said that ‘Arrow’ began as a “superpower-less superhero show”. He admitted that the series had to deviate from its original focus with many of The CW’s new shows coming in.

He said, “…we’ve had to break away from that original modus operandi a little bit, because we were introducing Barry Allen, and in subsequent seasons, we’ve shepherded some of the Legends of Tomorrow onto their own show.”

However, he teased that a new villain will be introduced into the series in subsequent seasons. He remained mum on further details but revealed that the new villain will not have any superpowers, as far as he knows.

According to Forbes, season 4’s finale didn’t end with a bang but instead left an anticlimactic sizzle among its fans. The article criticized the episode as poorly orchestrated with choreography that failed to deliver. Scenes were also oversaturated by multiple heroes and unconvincing antagonists.

‘Arrow’ is an American television series based on the DC comics character Green Arrow. It premiered on October 2012 and received generally positive reviews from critics. Season 5 will return on The CW sometime in late 2016 although no official release date has been announced as of the present.
