The official title of “Battlefield 6” is one of the most speculated aspects of the upcoming game. While many well-known insiders have claimed that EA and DICE will simply call it “Battlefield,” a new leak claims it could be named “Battlefield 2042.”
“Battlefield 6” has been called as such primarily because it will follow “Battlefield V.” But anyone familiar with the franchise’s earliest games should know that DICE might not follow a successive number scheme when it comes to titles of the games in the series. But the recently rumored name of the game actually makes sense considering its expected setting.
A new set of leaks appeared online, just days before the “Battlefield 6” official reveal, claiming that the game will be titled “Battlefield 2042.” The source said events in the game happen 20 years after “Battlefield 4,” which would land in the year 2042.
EA has described this Battlefield title as "near future" internally - So a 2042 setting is definitely plausible.

Tom Henderson, who has been the source of many “Battlefield 6” leaks, was one of the insiders that said the game would be simple called “Battlefield.” He, however, does not entirely dismiss the new information. Henderson added that the “2042” title is plausible considering the game will feature a “near future” plot. The leak included images that shows the supposed “2042” logo, Henderson noted that its metadata does not match with the other “Battlefield 6” leaked assets, suggesting they did not come from the same sources. “Although this doesn't prove or disprove anything, I would approach with caution,” Henderson added.
The new leak also claimed that EA would open an alpha or beta test for fans later in June. It was previously speculated that the “Battlefield 6” alpha could begin sometime in July. Meanwhile, EA is also rumored to first open a “private testing session” for streamers and content creators on June 15.
EA and DICE have previously hinted that “Battlefield 6” is going to be the biggest installment in the series, and the new leak echoes that statement. In terms of gameplay maps, the upcoming first-person shooter is described as “the biggest in ‘Battlefield’ history.” For example, maps reportedly have sectors. Squads would need to capture various “points” within a sector in order to control it.
“Battlefield 6” will be officially revealed on June 9. The game will be released this holiday and will launch on PC, as well as old and current-gen consoles.
