While the current Mitsuki arc can certainly be considered long, even by the standards of this franchise, it does have some relevant concepts that mimic those of real-life. As will be revealed in “Boruto” Episode 86, for example, Onoki will basically try to prevent more deaths by sending puppets to war instead of humans. This mimics the current real-world development of AI and robots for use in warfare and even touches on the same moral issues regarding machine intelligence.
In “Boruto” Episode 86, which is titled “Kozuchi’s Will,” Onoki is expected to reveal to Boruto that his grandson Kozuchi was killed in a war when he was only 12 years of age. In an effort to prevent such tragedies from repeating themselves, the old ninja wants to use Mitsuki to create more powerful puppets. As a result, only the artificial beings will be sent to be destroyed in the battles to come.
The proposal that Onoki comes up with in “Boruto” Episode 86 mirrors the same sentiments that current engineers and scientists have with regards to modern warfare. By using machines powered by AI, the goal is to prevent more deaths while maximizing war capabilities. This is a fairly interesting use of real-world topics in an arc that has since divided the community due to just how long it has been dragging out.
Regardless of how interesting the details revealed in “Boruto” Episode 86 may be, there is no denying the fact that it has been going on for far longer than it should. This is understandable, however, since the manga is still in its early stages and the main story has yet to develop and mature.
Even so, a lot of fans have expressed that they would rather see the anime take a long break than to watch more fillers. For those who are still interested to see the events that will occur in “Boruto” Episode 86, it is set to air on Dec. 16.
