Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan are starring in “Outlander” season 4 as Claire and Jamie Fraser and their show is ending next week. But avid viewers of the drama should not worry because seasons 5 and 6 were already confirmed to follow.
“Fans can rest assured their beloved Claire and Jamie will be back facing new challenges, adversaries and adventures in seasons five and six as we delve into American history and continue the story of the Frasers as they settle in the New World,” The Hollywood Reporter quoted Starz president and CEO Chris Albrecht as saying in a statement.
Naturally, “Outlander” seasons five and six will still be led by Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan but this time each installment will only feature 12 episodes each unlike season 4 that will end with 13. The upcoming seasons are going to be based on Diana Gabaldon's “The Fiery Cross” and “A Breath of Snow and Ashes,” respectively. These books are part of the author’s “Outlander novel series.
The works for the fifth season of the series has begun shortly after the confirmation of the additional sequels. Thus, Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan may just enjoy a short break after “Outlander” season 4 before they film again for their popular period drama.
Now, with the success of the “Outlander” series Caitriona Balfe revealed that she has other plans for her career other than being Claire Fraser in the time-traveling fantasy period drama. In her interview with the US’ Harper’s Bazaar, the Globe-nominated actress shared that while it was certain that she will still be working alongside Sam Heughan on two more seasons of the TV adaptation of Diana Gabaldon’s novels, she has other interest besides acting.
Caitriona Balfe disclosed that she wants to direct a film or drama as well and she believes that Sam Heughan also have this dream. “I definitely would love to direct down the line, and I think he would too,” the actress said. “I would love to be on set when Sam Heughan’s bossing me around!”
Meanwhile, Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe’s “Outlander” season 4 is concluding with episode 13 on Jan. 27. Fans must not miss it to better understand what will happen next in season 5.
