“Chicago Med” season 4 premiered just this week and lots of things already happened in Gaffney Chicago Medical Center. For a start, one doctor is hanging up the white coat and it means someone is leaving the show.
As Deadline reported, Rachel DiPillo (Dr. Sarah Reese) has decided to withdraw from the NBC medical drama. For the exit, her character is going to another medical institution to pursue her psychiatry residency. Dr. Reese made this decision after discovering that her estranged father, who tried to reconnect with her, is a serial killer.
Talking about DiPillo’s exit, executive producer Diane Frolov explained to TV Line, “She had such a close relationship to Charles, and she feels betrayed by him and just can’t stay.”
Co-EP Andrew Schneider added, “The trauma of her father doing such terrible things, she feels like she needs to go someplace else.” He further said that Rachel can come back. They would welcome her because they love her, plus the team could always write a storyline that would bring Dr. Reese back to the hospital.
Elsewhere in the premiere episode, Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) finally accepted Dr. Will Halstead’s (Nick Gehlfuss) proposal. The decision was not instant, though, for it took her a week to think it over. Now, with the engagement, a wedding could happen at one point in "Chicago Med" season 4.
Now, "Chicago Med" Season 4 episode 2, titled "When to Let Go," is part of the One Chicago crossover event that is happening on Oct. 3. For the story, the medical staff will be very busy as patients from the fire in an apartment complex are continuously being wheeled in. The doctors may have to save the life of “Chicago Fire’s” Jay Halstead and “Chicago Med’s” Dr. Will’s father, who is one of the victims in the blaze.
Meanwhile, for fans who can’t watch ‘Chicago Med’ Season 4 episode 2 on cable, the other option to view the show is via streaming services. As shared by Heavy, people can sign up with FuboTV, Hulu and Sling TV, but it should be noted that after the seven-day free trial, subscription fees apply.
