By now, fans may have already heard that “Code Geass” Season 3 is going to be a feature film titled “Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;surrection.” But here is an interesting tidbit that some may not know yet – Lelouch is very much alive in the upcoming film.
This can be confusing because Lelouch clearly died in “Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2” and the mantle of Zero has passed to his good friend, Suzaku Kururugi. However, “Lelouch of the Re;surrection” is going to be set the alternate timeline featured in the three recap films that came out last year.
“Lelouch will come back to the series, and its creator stressed the lead would be alive,” Megan Peters said in her piece for ComicBook.com earlier this month. “This third installment will follow after Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2. However, it will use the anime’s recent reimagining of the second season; Over the last year or so, Code Geass has released a slew of recap films which detail its story, and the final movie made a few tweaks to season two which will pave the way for this new project.”
That explains why Lelouch is still alive in what should have been “Code Geass” Season 3. Jun Fukuyama is back to voice Lelouch, and as seen in the trailer for “Lelouch of the Re;surrection,” Suzaku will appear as Zero with Takahiro Sakurai voicing him. Characters from the original series like C.C. (voiced by Yukana Nogami) and Nunnally Lamperouge (Kaori Nazuka) are in the film as well, and the trailer introduces three new characters – Shario (Ayumu Murase), Shesutaaru (Nobunaga Shimazaki), and Bituru (Wataru Takagi).
“Code Geass” Season 3 isn’t coming. But fans can check out “Lelouch of the Re;surrection” once it comes out on Feb. 9, 2019. It will be interesting to see how much has changed since the end of “Lelouch of the Rebellion R2.”
