Fans have been waiting for the release of “Days Gone” for a long time and now that it is finally here, it would seem that critics are not impressed. While many reviewers agree that there are a lot of things about the game that are fun, it is hardly on the same level as other post-apocalyptic titles. Basically, anyone looking for a serious game will not likely find this open-world zombie shooter that satisfying.
Among the most common complaints that reviewers have with regards to “Days Gone” is simply that it is an empty, generic title with nothing original to offer. Unlike other games that it can be compared to such as “The Last of Us” and “Horizon: Zero Dawn,” there is simply nothing unique about this title. This is what The Verge and many other publications find most disappointing about it.
To be fair, most reviewers did note the loving detail that the developers poured into “Days Gone” when it comes to the world and the characters. The graphical quality is stellar and the combat certainly has its good points. Unfortunately, these are all there is to the zombie shooter. In terms of story, plot, and even the activities, there is simply nothing about the game that has not been seen before.
This is not to say that all of those aspects mentioned are bad. They are simply boring, bland, generic, and just about every adjective that equates “Days Gone” to a dull experience. Unlike other open-world titles that encourage players to explore, there is no such element in this offering. It almost comes across as an amalgamation of every zombie movie, TV show, book, and video game ever.
Anyone who likes those kinds of things will likely enjoy “Days Gone” and everything it has to offer. For anyone who prefers more serious games, this will not likely appeal to them. Gamers can decide that for themselves when the game comes out on April 26.
