EA and Motive Studios delighted “Dead Space” fans over the weekend with the release of new gameplay teasers and a livestream providing more details about the upcoming remake. More importantly, fans no longer have to keep guessing when they should expect the game to be released.
Fans who missed the event can visit the official Dead Space YouTube channel, where they can find a two-minute gameplay walkthrough of the upcoming remake. While this only shows a very small portion of a map and Isaac in his iconic suit, Motive Studios discussed at length how the remake’s audio system will be improved compared to the original game.
The developer noted that hearing Isaac’s breathing and heartbeat was one of the main features of the original games. Most fans will agree that these elements did add to the intensity and horror. Motive Studios is working on maintaining that in the “Dead Space” remake with some improvements.
One specific area that the developer will improve is how Isaac’s breathing changes from gasping for air when running out of oxygen to getting an oxygen refill. In the original game, the developer pointed out that there was not a natural transition between these instances because Isaac goes back to breathing normally instantly after a refill. But that will change in the remake. “You can expect to hear Isaac catch his breath as he recovers from a lack of oxygen,” the developer said.
Motive also introduced the A.L.I.V.E. system as one of the new features in the “Dead Space” remake. “It encompasses all of Isaac’s breathing and heart rate, vocal exertions, and dialogue, influenced by a variety of driving gameplay features,” Motive explained.
Meanwhile, in an interaction with a Twitter user, Motive reiterated that the “Dead Space” remake will not have microtransactions. When someone asked if some gameplay features would be cut out at launch so it could be released as part of post-launch DLC or microtransactions, the official Twitter page responded there will be “none” of that for the upcoming title.
