Disney, Warner Bros Discovery, Fox Sports JV Expects 5M Subscriber Sign-ups in Five Years

Disney, Fox, Warner Bros. sports joint venture is targeting five million subscribers in the first five years.

The Walt Disney Company, Fox Corp., and Warner Bros. Discovery previously signed an agreement to form a joint venture for sports streaming. Now, the companies said they expect to get at least five million sign-ups in the first five years after the launch of their sports app.

Target Sign-ups Before Official Launch

According to Reuters, Lachlan Murdoch, the chief executive officer of Fox Corp., said on Monday, March 4, that the given figure is their initial target. Only last month, Walt Disney, Fox, and Warner Bros. announced their joint venture project focusing on streaming sports content.

The companies are set to launch their sports streaming app this coming autumn, but the date is not yet available. The partners said they also aim to attract younger viewers to expand their reach and demographic further.

Projected Pricing and Content

The New York Post reported that Disney, Fox, and Warner Bros. upcoming joint streaming service will provide an extensive line of sports content. Sports fans will find almost everything under one roof, including programs from Disney-owned leading channels such as ESPN, ABC, ESPN2, ESPNEWS, ESPNU, ACC Network, and SEC Network.

Fox and ESPN will also give the rights to NFL games, Major League Baseball, and content from FS1 and FS2 cable channels. On the other hand, Warner Bros. Discovery will put up its NBA, NHL, and March Madness college basketball content. It will also provide the rights to the Champions League and other European soccer tournaments.

The leading networks also have rights to tennis, Formula 1, tennis, golf, and more, so subscribing to their joint streaming service is like getting an almost complete sports viewing package. As for the pricing, Disney, Fox, and Warner Bros. have yet to announce them, but it was reported that fans may expect significantly lower rates compared to traditional cable sports packages that can reach as high as $100 per month these days.
