There had been speculations that Ellen DeGeneres might be leaving her same name talk show on NBC in the near future. And if that happens, fans could be thinking where does her wife Portia de Rossi stand on this matter.
DeGeneres’ talk show is currently in contract to air on the peacock network through the summer of 2020. Until then, the future of the well-loved TV program could be hanging in the balance. But considering its consistent ratings after one and a half decade, it would not be shocking if the fate of the show’s continuation would boil down to DeGeneres’ decision.
She ultimately decided in 2016 to extend her contract for the show until the summer of 2020. But DeGeneres also implied in an interview with the New York Times in December that her possible exit from the TV program has been a topic in their household.
It appears that Portia de Rossi is more welcoming to the idea of her saying goodbye to the show that Ellen DeGeneres has been on since 2003. On the other hand, her brother Vance DeGeneres is an advocate of her continuing to host the show as long as possible.
“She gets mad when my brother tells me I can’t stop,” DeGeneres revealed. But de Rossi retorted, “I just think she’s such a brilliant actress and stand-up that it doesn’t have to be this talk show for her creativity. There are other things she could tackle.”
In that exchange alone, it appears that de Rossi is not explicitly convincing her wife to quit the TV show program. But she seems to be hoping that DeGeneres would maximize her talents through other projects such as her latest stand-up show that premiered on Netflix last year titled "Relatable."

On other related news, there have been mixed reactions to how Ellen DeGeneres responded on the issues of Kevin Hart's statements that upset the LGBT community. The 60-year-old host showed support for Hart amid controversies sparked by his old tweets from 2011 stating that if he saw his son playing with her daughter’s dollhouse, he would “break it over his head.”
DeGeneres said on her show while interviewing Hart that she wants the fellow comedian to be reinstated as the Oscars host. She also later tweeted, “I believe in forgiveness. I believe in second chances. And I believe in [Kevin Hart].”
