“Fuller House” season 4 will premiere in less than a month. And while giving fans some plot teasers for the new episodes, cast member Juan Pablo Di Pace, who plays Fernando, revealed that actresses Sofia Vergara and Jennifer Lopez were the inspirations for an upcoming special guest role.
As reported previously, one of the biggest storylines for “Fuller House” season 4 is Kimmy’s pregnancy. Note, though, that the baby is not hers and Fernando’s. Back in season 3, she agreed to be a surrogate to help Stephanie and Jonathan fulfill their dream to become parents.
However, fans who know Fernando may have guessed that he will most likely attach himself in Kimmy’s pregnancy a lot. So while, technically, it is not his baby Di Pace confirmed that Fernando will be very involved in Kimmy’s pregnancy in “Fuller House” season 4.
And it is not just Fernando getting so involved in Kimmy’s adventure as a surrogate. For the first time ever in the series, viewers will meet Fernando’s mom in “Fuller House” season 4. And Di Pace revealed that the matriarch’s arrival — portrayed by Maria Canals-Barrera — will lead to some comedic, awkward moments.
Di Pace said the introduction of Fernando’s mom has been in the back burner since the first season. Luckily, it is finally happening in “Fuller House” season 4. Considering Fernando’s personality, Di Pace told TVLine that he had always envisioned an on-screen mother with similarities to Sofia Vergara or Jennifer Lopez. But, presumably, that would have been a highly complicated process to pursue.
Meanwhile, the actor assures that Canals-Barrera definitely fits the bill as Fernando’s mom. “She’s also way too young to be my mother. You can tell where Fernando gets his drama from,” Di Pace added about “Fuller House” season 4.
And when Fernando is said to be very involved with Kimmy’s pregnancy, this is what Di Pace means, “It’s not so much that Fernando thinks it’s his child, he thinks it’s his pregnancy.” “Fuller House” season 4 will premiere on Dec. 14 on Netflix.
