A new report has supported previous claims that “GTA 6” will feature a female main protagonist, which would be a monumental change for the franchise. But fans might still have to wait for at least two years before they can get their hands on the much-awaited game.
A female protagonist for “GTA 6” is not new information. This time, however, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier has added to the lineup of insiders to report that this change is in the works for the upcoming game. The journalist offered more details about the playable character, too, noting that the protagonist is Latina and will co-star with another main protagonist.
The report did not specifically mention if the other main protagonist is male, but it is a possibility. Schreier said the “GTA 6” leading characters were inspired by the American criminal couple, Bonnie and Clyde.
Kotaku noted that “GTA 6” will not be the first time “Grand Theft Auto” players will have an option to play as a female character. But this could still be considered a first for the franchise, especially if the upcoming character will have a well-thought-out backstory like the fully-voiced male protagonists previously introduced in the series.
Bloomberg also corroborated another long-rumored detail about “GTA 6.” The game is said to be codenamed “Project Americas,” mainly because it was planned to feature a huge map that covers locations in North and South America. However, the report said Rockstar Games has since downsized its plans, and the game’s main map is now reportedly based on the fictionalized Miami, also known in the franchise as Vice City.
Schreier’s sources suggested that “GTA 6” will still feature a larger map that features more interior locations than earlier “GTA” titles. But the inclusion of intercontinental territories for the “GTA 6” maps could still become a reality. Rockstar reportedly plans to “continually update the game” by releasing new missions and cities regularly after its launch.
Rockstar only confirmed the development of “GTA 6” last February, but the report said the studio started working on it in some capacity way back in 2014. There is no release window yet for the game. Developers interviewed by Schreier said they expect the game’s development to go on for at least two more years.
