The Galaxy Watch 4 series is expected to launch with a revamped operating system. Samsung has also announced an all-new chipset that will power the wearable devices with the promise of significant improvements in the CPU and graphics performance.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 specs
Samsung announced the Exynos W920 in a press release on Monday. The chipset for wearable devices integrated with 4G LTE Cat.4 modem designed with “advanced” 5nm extreme ultra-violet (EUV) process node.
The Exynos W920 is composed of two cores of Arm Cortex-A55 and an Arm Mali-G68 GPU. Samsung did not provide a specific number of the chipset’s clock speed, but the company says it is capable of delivering around 20 percent fast CPU speed and a 10x improvement in the graphics performance. The latter is expected to pave the way for a “more interactive eye-catching 3D graphical user interface (GUI) on a device’s qHD (960×540) display.”
Aside from the dual-core Arm Cortex-A55, the Exynos W920 also features Cortex-M55, which serves as the dedicated low-power display process. The Cortex-M55 comes into play once wearable devices enter the Always-on-display mode. That means the device will consume less power in always-on mode.
Samsung also boasts that the Exynos W920 features the smallest package for wearable device chipsets called Fan-Out Panel Level Packaging. It houses the Exynos W920, the power management IC (PMIC), the LPDDR4 memory module, and a built-in multimedia card. The company said this packaging solution should leave more space to pack a bigger battery in wearable devices that uses Exynos W920.
The Exynos W920 press release does not specifically mention the Galaxy Watch 4. But Samsung confirmed, “The Exynos W920 supports a new unified wearable platform Samsung built jointly with Google, and will be first applied to the upcoming Galaxy Watch model.”

That upcoming model is almost certainly the Galaxy Watch 4 series. While Samsung remains mum on the wearable devices, the rumor mill has been way generous in revealed details about its design and specs.
Samsung is expected to announce two variants called Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic. Tech fans will not have a hard time looking for their leaked renders online, but the official announcement is likely happening at the Galaxy Unpacked on Wednesday, Aug. 11.
