“Genshin Impact” developer miHoYo revealed details about the new content arriving in version 2.4 next week. It turns out that previous leaks were correct, and the update will open the path to a new territory called Enkanomiya, where Travelers are set to face new enemies.
The opening of the Enkanomiya region was one of the highlights during the “Genshin Impact” version 2.4 special program. miHoYo also released new screenshots showing some of the areas within the mysterious underwater territory in a PlayStation Blog post.
As explained by “Genshin Impact” environment concept artist Jef, Enkanomiya is situated deep within Watatsumi Island in Inazuma. The territory and its denizens were locked in for an entire millennium in darkness, but they managed to establish an underwater civilization.
Due to its history, there is no natural light in Enkanomiya, confirming previous leaks that the area will not feature an alternating day and night cycle. This also explains why the areas shown in the screenshots and the special program are all dark and why there is no lush vegetation, making it appear more mysterious. Travelers will finally be able to explore in “Genshin Impact” version 2.4.
However, Enkanomiya is not engulfed in absolute darkness. “Using advanced technology and help from Orobashi, the people of Enkanomiya created an artificial sun, Dainichi Mikoshi, which lit up the dark depths,” miHoYo wrote in the blog post.
The developer confirmed Travelers would be able to explore the area’s remaining structures, such as an abandoned library, shrines, laboratory, where players can gather more clues about the underwater civilization. While there is no conventional day and night in Enkanomiya, an alternative cycle is provided by the Dainichi Mikoshi that will also guide “Genshin Impact” players in solving the puzzles they will uncover in the area.
New territory means new enemies in “Genshin Impact” version 2.4. In Enkanomiya, Travelers should expect to encounter new creatures called Bathysmal Vishaps and a new type of Abyss Lectors while completing new quests. The Bathysmal Vishaps are dragon-like creatures described as “dangerous predators” that like to hunt their prey together. The Abyss Lectors: Fathomless Flames, as the name suggests, have Pyro abilities that can attack unshielded Travelers with delayed bursts.
Version 2.4, titled “Fleeting Colors in Flight,” is slated to go live on Jan. 5, 2022. “Genshin Impact” is currently available on Android, iOS, PS4, PS5, and Windows PC.
