“Gotham” season 5 has been confirmed to be the series’s final run, and although this is a bit sad for the fans, the show promises a great ending where they will see most of the well-loved “Batman” characters. At the recent New York Comic-Con, more spoilers about the show were spilled and below are some of the details.
The trailer that was released at the NYCC showed the aftermath of Jeremiah’s bombing and Gotham City is in complete ruin. Bruce is not Batman yet as well. The preview showed this scenario and apparently, this is just the beginning of “Gotham” season 5. Towards the end of the series, the episodes will take place in a new setting, which is the future.
Speaking with Den of Geek, showrunner John Stephens said, “We pick up at the top of season five, at the conclusion of No Man's Land, Day 365 then, we cycle backwards to day 87, three months into No Man's Land where Jim has created his green zone and wants his reunification.”
He added, “We're catching up, and for the first nine episodes, we're always catching up to that first scene we see.”
It was also learned that “Gotham” season 5 will only have 10 episodes and this is fewer compared to the previous seasons. The series will follow the story of Detective Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie), who works in Gotham City Police Department. The young Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) is the center of the story, and his transformation into “Batman” will be the highlight.
Furthermore, a new cast addition was revealed and he will be a villain. Shane West has been confirmed to play Bane in “Gotham” season 5.

It was said that West will appear as Eduardo Dorrance first and he will transform into Bane in the series. He is a soldier and former friend of Jim Gordon, and he appears in Gotham City to carry out a mission.
Eduardo is kind and helpful at first but his true colors will emerge later on. It turns out that he is not whom everyone sees him to be. In the comics, Eduardo is the son of Edmund Dorrance, the King Snake, so it seems that his villainous character will have a link to his father.
"I don't think we were ever really aesthetic about putting in new characters," Comic Book quoted showrunner Stephens as saying. "Certainly the character that Shane [West] is coming into to play is the character that we had been waiting to use, because we know we wanted one more big, canon character who was going to come in and make a splash, and he does, entirely.”
Stephens further described Bane as super strong and very angry. Thus, fans can expect a horrible villain in “Gotham” season 5.
“Gotham” season 5 has no specific premiere date yet, but based on the trailer, it will arrive sometime between January and May 2019.
