“Grey’s Anatomy” season 15 has a lot to pick up on when it comes back in 2019 including the big reveal about Catherine’s (Debbie Allen) cancer diagnosis. Meanwhile, the show closed its 2018 run with a drama-filled mid-season finale this week.
In “Grey’s Anatomy” season 15 episode 7, the hunch of many fans was confirmed — the mystery VIP patient that Catherine had been talking to Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) about was herself. The veteran doctor has cancer and it cannot be helped with the typical treatments. Her diagnosis also happened at the least favorable time in both the lives of Richard (James Pickens, Jr.) and Jackson (Jesse Williams).
Knowing Catherine, she does not want anyone’s stares of pity. Instead, she instructed Meredith and Koracick (Greg Germann) to find a way to somehow treat her illness and seems determined to give it a fight. Meanwhile, she also insisted on not telling Richard as she worried about his own mental health. This means that the time Richard learns about Catherine’s illness is another upcoming spectacle that will surely be revisited in the remaining episodes of “Grey’s Anatomy” season 15.
On the other hand, Meredith told Maggie (Kelly McCreary) about Catherine in the “Grey’s Anatomy” season 15 winter finale. So as much as Maggie wants to punish Jackson for his own way of cheating on her, she was compelled to set it all aside and be there for him. Maggie told Jackson about his mother’s illness in episode 8. How it will affect Jackson and his relationship with Maggie is another storyline to be explored in the next episodes.
Aside from Catherine’s battle with cancer, “Grey’s Anatomy” season 15 will begin 2019 with a lot of wounds left open in episode 7. One of the biggest drama that unfolded was between Teddy (Kim Raver) and Owen (Kevin McKidd).
She sure chose an absurd timing to tell Owen about their baby. But, regardless, the cat is out of the bag and now a Teddy-Owen-Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) love triangle is about to explode once “Grey’s Anatomy” season 15 returns in 2019.
Even more exciting was the fact that the “Grey’s Anatomy” season 15 winter finale ended with the three of them together inside an elevator when the electricity went out. That sure makes up for a very awkward elevator ride.
Meanwhile, the return date for “Grey’s Anatomy” season 15 has not been announced yet. But based on the schedules in the past couple of seasons, the show will most likely return within the second half of January 2019.
