Fans of the show’s conspiracy theorist Jerry Ortega (Jorge Garcia) will be treated to a “Hawaii Five-0” season 9 episode focused on his past. Meanwhile, viewers should also expect a mid-season finale inspired by “The Expendables.”
Since the show’s fourth season, Jerry has taken an unconventional spot in the team of law enforcement officers led by McGarrett (Alex O'Loughlin). But his participation will not be official until season 7.
Now that he is actually part of the team, it is just fitting to finally understand in “Hawaii Five-0” season 9 how Jerry ended up as a local conspiracy researcher. TVLine reports that the said episode goes back to when Jerry was just a pre-teen.
The upcoming Jerry-centered episode might also indicate that the team’s so-called special consultant could be caught in an ordeal in “Hawaii Five-0” season 9. This would require him to remember the times when he was just a kid scouring around for answers just like, as TVLine puts it, the children of the classic movie “Goonies.”
On the other hand, showrunner Peter M. Lenkov has already been planning how “Hawaii Five-0” season 9 will close things in 2018. Back in July, the showrunner revealed to TVLine that the mid-season finale will be a “big sort of ‘Expendables’ episode.” Details about this episode are still a mystery but Lenkov hinted, “We’re bringing back a lot of people that over the years have helped us.”
“Hawaii Five-0” season 9 is special to the franchise in many ways. For one, it will feature the 200th episode of the remake. Its title and synopsis are still under wraps but the only plot that has so far been confirmed for the episode is the soft opening of the “McDanno” restaurant.
“Hawaii Five-0” season 9’s premiere date is also very close to the actual 50th anniversary of the franchise, including the original series. To honor that, Lenkov penned the first episode titled “Cocoon.”
If that sounds familiar, that is because it is the same title as the very first episode of the original series that aired in 1968. The creator of the original series, the late Leonard Freeman, was given writing credits too for this episode, which will air on Friday, Sept. 28, at 9 p.m. on CBS.
