PRINCETON, N.J., Dec. 14, 2017 -- IXP Corporation—a prominent national public safety and emergency communications solutions provider—has been awarded a contract by the town of Princeton to operate and manage its 9-1-1 dispatch center. IXP will provide staffing for the emergency communications center as well as system-wide technology support, resulting in notably enhanced efficiency and long-term cost savings.
William Metro, IXP’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, stated, “IXP’s long-term managed services solution provides municipalities with high-performance dispatch services that meet the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies’ (CALEA) rigorous public safety communications accreditation program. We not only make it easier for municipalities to achieve or maintain their law enforcement accreditation and professional excellence, we also deliver dispatch services that exceed industry standards at significantly reduced recurring operating costs. We have changed the paradigms associated with how public safety services are provided to communities. IXP delivers innovative public safety solutions that are better, faster and more cost-effective.”
According to IXP Corporation, the town will save approximately $1.7 million over the next five years by utilizing IXP’s managed services solution. IXP was initially awarded a two-year contract, commencing December 2017, which can be extended for up to five years.
IXP’s President and Chief Operating Officer Lawrence Consalvos added, “We enable municipalities to achieve optimal performance and greater control of budgets and resources. We do this by providing a service that includes a multi-year fixed price contract which features both financial predictability and performance-based metrics. It also alleviates the burden on local governments confronted with long-term unfunded pensions and other benefits liabilities.”
The Princeton center will be staffed by at least a dozen experienced IXP dispatchers, who are hired locally and provided with rigorous training by IXP to ensure they will meet demanding benchmarks. IXP’s managed service also minimizes involvement by sworn police officers, enabling them to return to their core duties rather than allocating significant time towards hiring, training, and staffing the dispatch center.
IXP currently manages emergency communications centers for East Windsor, Lawrence Township, and Hightstown in New Jersey; Johns Creek, Dunwoody, Sandy Springs, and Brookhaven in Georgia; Danbury, Connecticut; and Boston’s Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority. IXP has been providing dispatch services to Lawrence Township since 2013, when it became the first town in New Jersey to privatize its 9-1-1 dispatch center.
