Amazon Prime Video hits the jackpot with the release of “Jack Ryan” season 2. Its first episode reportedly garnered more than 7 million viewers in the United States within the opening week alone. The numbers are deemed impressive, especially considering that its release date was changed at the last minute.
‘Jack Ryan’ season 2 viewership: Millions of US viewers watched episode 1 in the first week
There is no doubt that “Jack Ryan” season 2 is one of the most awaited series to be released exclusively on a streaming platform this year. It follows the work of the titular character, played by John Krasinski, as a CIA analyst who goes out on the field to neutralize potential worldwide security threats. The second season has Jack fighting bad guys in South America amid a crucial presidential election in Venezuela.
Nielsen reported (via Deadline) that “Jack Ryan” season 2 episode 1 was watched by an average minute audience of 7.3 million in the U.S. from its opening week on Oct. 31 to Nov. 6. New episodes were originally scheduled to start streaming on Nov. 1, but Krasinski appeared on social media to announce that the premiere was moved a day early.
It appears that the surprise schedule changes for “Jack Ryan” season 2 did not negatively affect the show. There were 950,000 viewers who reportedly watched the first episode on Oct. 31 while 2 million more saw the installment on Nov. 1.
Within the opening week, all eight episodes of “Jack Ryan” season 2 were streamed by an average minute audience of 4.6 million viewers in the same region. Nielsen used its Subscription Video On Demand Content Ratings tool to analyze the “Jack Ryan” season 2 viewership. The show is now Nielsen’s highest-rated Amazon Prime Video title.
‘Jack Ryan’ season 3: When would it be released
The above-mentioned “Jack Ryan” season 2 numbers show that Amazon made the right choice of investing in more series installments earlier than usual. Season 2 was ordered several months before the series debuted in 2018, and “Jack Ryan” season 3 was also confirmed last February – at least eight months before the second season’s premiere.
However, there is a possibility that fans are in for a long wait this time for “Jack Ryan” season 3. New episodes would ideally arrive next year, but season 3 filming has yet to start making a 2020 release date a very tight schedule to accomplish.
