‘Justice League Part One’ Updates: Jesse Eisenberg Hints Return of Lex Luthor; Zack Snyder Explains How ‘Batman v Superman’ Leads New Films

Jesse Eisenberg plays villain Lex Luthor in Zack Snyder's 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice'

‘Justice League Part One’ may feature the return of the villainous Lex Luthor as hinted by actor Jesse Eisenberg. Meanwhile, Zack Snyder explained how ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ sets up the events for the upcoming two-part superhero films.

According to The Week, Eisenberg teased that his villain may make an appearance in Zack Snyder’s new film. When asked about returning as the evil Lex Luthor, he said, "I'm kind of in wait. They just started filming Justice League, so I'm kind of like waiting for my crack at it… I don't know what I'm allowed to say because I feel like there's probably some drone following me from DC and if I say anything wrong, I get, you know, picked off… But yeah, I think so. And I love it and I love everybody who's in it. You know, it's a really talented group of people."

Jeremy Irons, who played Bruce Wayne’s butler Alfred in ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’, speculated that upcoming two-part ‘Justice League’ films will follow a more linear story line and will have a simpler script in comparison to Snyder’s March 25 release, which pitted two of DC’s most popular superheroes against each other. He also admitted that he signed on to reprise his role for ‘Justice League’ since "it's a bit of income".

According to Box Office Mojo, ‘Batman v Superman’ operated on a $250 million production budget but went on to earn $872.2 million worldwide. It is considered a commercial success despite critics heavily panning the film.

Meanwhile, Snyder explained how he set up the events of ‘Justice League’ with the ‘Batman v Superman’ ending. According to The Independent, the director purposefully killed off Henry Cavill’s Superman since it was his intention for Ben Affleck’s Batman to build the superhero team himself.

He said, “I felt like with Superman around, it’s a different conversation when you create the Justice League, right?... I just feel like Bruce Wayne having to go out and find these seven samurai by himself, that’s a lot more interesting of a premise. I also I felt like, without Superman, there is definitely a vulnerability to the team that they’re gonna need to figure something out, you know?”

‘Justice League’ is an upcoming two-part installment in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). Part one is scheduled to be released on November 17, 2017. It is produced by DC Comics, DC Entertainment, Dune Entertainment, Lensbern Productions, Circle 4 Entertainment, and Warner Bros.
