CJ Cheiljedang Corp. is spreading Korean cuisine worldwide; this time, its target is the Australian market. The South Korean food company said on Thursday, Nov. 30, that it would introduce a number of popular K-food products to Australian consumers by selling them in local convenience stores.
CJ Cheiljedang revealed it has teamed up with one of the country's leading convenience store chains, EzyMart, to sell its food products under Bibigo and other brands, including Haetban. Initially, 14 items are set to be sold in EzyMart outlets across the region.
First Batch of K-Food Products to Arrive in AU
As per The Korea Economic Daily, CJ Cheiljedang will deliver 14 food items to EzyMart stores. Customers can look forward to the popular tteokbokki dish made by Bibigo. This particular spicy rice cake snack became well-known in many countries outside of Korea after being featured in K-dramas and K-shows.
A variety of snack items, including seaweed, is also on the list. Under CJ Cheiljedang's Haetban brand - the product list includes instant cooked rice and its signature Haetban Cupban instant rice bowl. It was mentioned that the initial phase of the product distribution to Australia's EzyMart stores will start this month.
Future Expansion Plans
EasyMart has an extensive network of around 450 stores across the country, with more than 200 outlets operating in Sydney. Chosun Business reported that CJ CheilJedang will use this wide reach to expand its brand further within the Oceania territory, with a main focus on Australia.
"Bibigo K-food is widening its reach in Australia by penetrating mainstream retail channels," CJ Cheiljedang's Oceania unit's chief executive officer, Cha Yoo Jin, said in a statement. "We will continue to increase our local consumer touchpoints through various channels."
