‘Legends of Tomorrow’ Season 2 Undergoes Major Character Changes; Justice Society of America to be Introduced?

Ciara Renee plays Hawkgirl in The CW's 'DC's Legends of Tomorrow'

‘Legends of Tomorrow’ season 2 is set to undergo major character changes beginning with some cast members’ exit as series regulars. Meanwhile, it was speculated that several members of the Justice Society of America may be making their way into the series.

According to IGN, the incoming season for The CW’s action-adventure television series will be doing some major revamping of its current cast lineup. The Season 1 finale found Hawkman (Falk Hentschel) and Hawkgirl’s (Ciara Renée) completing their 4,000-year-old quest of taking down the supervillain Vandal Savage and ending this story arc in the series.

Renee played Kendra Saunders a.k.a. Hawkgirl and was a series regular. The changes didn’t affect Hentschel as much since he was a recurring guest and wasn’t part of the main cast.

Series co-creator Marc Guggenheim admitted that they weren’t planning to take Hawkman and Hawkgirl out of the picture but the planning process made it inevitable. He said, "We went through the team, made a list of all the characters and started to think of stories for them. When we got to Hawkman and Hawkgirl, we had trouble coming up with stories… The bow was tied so tightly and neatly with their story in the finale, that everything we thought of felt very forced… bringing them back to the team as soon as the beginning of Season 2 felt premature."

Guggenheim added that season 2 will be “streamlined” compared to its predecessor. He also hinted at having distinctive seasons with a rotating cast.

Wentworth Miller, who played Leonard Snart a.k.a. Captain Cold, was the first major departure from series. Captain Cold was last seen sacrificing himself to save the team and destroy Vanishing Point. Although he exited ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ as a series regular, he signed with Warner Bros. to become a regular in different Greg Berlanti series – the “Berlantiverse”. According to Comicbook.com, this contract allows him to continue appearing as a recurring guest on ‘Legends’ and even ‘The Flash’.

Meanwhile, talks of the Justice Society of America coming in soon emerged following Patrick J. Adam’s Tyler Rex a.k.a. Hourman revealing himself as part of the JSA. According to Moviepilot, the possible JSA storyline may bring in an array of new characters including Jay Garrick, Doctor Fate, Spectre, Power Girl, Sandman, and the first Green Lantern Alan Scott.

‘Legends of Tomorrow’ season 2 is scheduled to debut on The CW in October 2016.
