Manila Bulletin and The Korea Times announced they have recently signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in news publishing. The media publication companies are now officially partners in news reporting.
Although the collaboration between The Korea Times and Manila Bulletin was only reported today, the two parties actually held a signing ceremony for the MOU on May 11. The Korea Times mentioned that the news of its tie-up with the Manila-based media also appeared on the front page of the Filipino newspaper.
The signing event was only held online but was attended by the publishing firms’ top executives. In the photos shared, the president of The Korea Times, Oh Young Jin, and Manila Bulletin’s head publisher, Herminio “Sonny” Coloma, were shown to have signed the agreement.
Maria Theresa B. Dizon-De Vega, Philippine Ambassador to South Korea MB’s executive editor, Pinky Concha Colmenares, and editor-in-chief Loreto D. Cabañes were also in attendance at the online signing ceremony.
It was reported that the MOU happened after Ambassador Dizon-De Vega organized the meet-up of the two media publications. It was arranged so they could exchange information and share knowledge on business while also boosting the diplomatic ties of the countries.
“This (MOU) is just one part of our partnership as we are going to do a lot of things together,” Manila Bulletin quoted Oh Young Jin as saying in a statement. Coloma also said, “The continuing exchange of information and ideas will push forward the frontiers of media communications in this very challenging era of digital transformation where there are a lot of disinformation and fake news. It also augurs well for credible and professional organizations promoting the practice of ethical journalism.”
