Michelle Obama hasn’t expressed her intention to run in the 2020 presidential election. But if she does, she could win the presidential race according to an election expert.
This is the analysis of Allan Lichtman a political historian at Washington D.C.’s American University. He has a knack for making uncannily accurate political forecasts over the years and has correctly predicted seven out of eight presidential elections since 1984 including Donald Trump’s stunning 2016 victory, according to Express.
“She comes out extraordinarily well with the Democratic rank and file,” Professor Lichtman said. “She has the charismatic potential. She has the pizzazz the [current] candidates don’t have.”
Comparing Michelle Obama and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, Lichtman said that the latter only appeal to a small group of voters. “Bernie Sanders has pizzazz, but he’s like Trump,” the political analyst said. “He appeals only to a narrow slice of the electorate. He’s not a Franklin Delano Roosevelt or a Ronald Reagan.”
There might be rules that prevent Michelle from being nominated at the convention but Lichtman added that rules can be changed. “I think it’s a long shot, but I don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility,” he added.
Fans have urged the former FLOTUS to join the presidential race this November. When she posted a Christmas message on Instagram fans grabbed the chance to try to convince Michelle Obama to give the Oval Office a shot.
“Please come back,” a fan wrote on the social media platform. “We cried when you left the White House,” another one posted.
There are talks the former president Barack Obama might be able to convince his wife to run for president, according to Meaww. At the moment, the former POTUS had not expressed support to any of the Democratic presidential candidates which might mean he is saving his endorsement for the possibility of Michelle joining the presidential race.
Michelle is indeed one of the most popular women in America today. Recently, she was named Gallup’s Most Admired Woman in 2019. It was her second time to earn the title as she was also ranked first in the polls last year.
