“Narcos: Mexico” is coming and it will offer the viewers some insights into how the drug trade started. To show this, this installment’s plot is going back to the time when the drug lords were still building their empire by producing illegal substances and distributing them around the world.
As the drama’s executive producer, Eric Newman, told The Hollywood Reporter, they will return to the ‘80s to realistically narrate the beginning of the modern drug syndicates. "The origins of the Guadalajara cartel are in the late 1970s and early 1980s, so Narcos is going back in time," he said.
Netflix also recently unveiled the latest “Narcos: Mexico” trailer and the scenes got the fans more excited for the new installment’s arrival. Needless to say, the series is filled with action and suspense while also offering drama and glamour on the side as the police go after the criminals.
Meanwhile, Diego Luna, who plays Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo in “Narcos: Mexico,” talked about the drama and his role as the drug cartel leader and founder of the notorious Guadalajara Cartel. In his exclusive interview with Variety, the Mexican actor revealed that he is hoping that their show will spread awareness about illegal drugs and its situation in the real world.
“The beauty of this series is that hopefully, it can trigger curiosity in audiences to go deeper and go research a little more. To read about it, to see documentaries, to open the newspapers looking for clues about this situation.”
The actor also addressed the allegations that “Narcos: Mexico” was made to extol the drug trade and turn cartel leaders into someone to be admired. The accusations originally appeared in Mexican publications, and he denied that this was what the show will impart to the viewers.
“After seeing the ten episodes the only thing that is clear to me is that I don’t want to belong to this world!” Diego explained. “I don’t want to meet any of them and wish I had no connection with them. It’s interesting to watch, and it’s also interesting to reflect on the past; to reflect how we got into the mess we are living in.”
“Narcos: Mexico” or “Narcos” season 4 is set to premiere on Nov. 16 via Netflix.
