‘Nashville’ season 5’s episode 1, entitled “The Wayfaring Stranger,” is scheduled to air on CMT on December 15. Season 5 is set to follow Rayna as she goes on a journey of self-discovery. Charles Esten, who plays Deacon on the series, revealed that the show will shift its focus to exploring its characters more.
Season 5’s premiere episode will debut on December 15 and will be available to stream the following day on Hulu. It is produced by Lionsgate, ABC Studios and Opry Entertainment. In the first full-length trailer released by CMT, it was revealed that Juliette (Hayden Panettiere) will experience a horrifying plane crash while Rayna (Connie Britton) will work on a new album together with Deacon (Charles Esten).
The season’s official synopsis posted on Hollywood Life reads, “The season begins with Rayna and Deacon facing a new normal with Maddie (Lennon Stella) now back home and Highway 65 struggling financially. The shocking news about Juliette creates a wave of emotions throughout Nashville and sets Rayna off on a journey of discovery.”
Esten assured that the new season’s key characters will get enough screen time during a previous interview with ET. He admitted that the show’s story will focus more on the characters instead of the “soap” drama factor.
He said, “We’re getting to spend a little more time with the songs. Some of the plots won’t be quite as accelerated, or there won’t be quite as many incidents, as [executive producer] Marshall [Herskovitz] has said it… What that means is we’re getting more time within the scenes.”
‘Nashville’ season 5’s episode 1, entitled “The Wayfaring Stranger,” is set to premiere on CMT on December 15, 2016. It was directed by Callie Khouri with a story by Edward Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz. It is set to feature the return of Hayden Panettiere as Juliette Barnes and Connie Britton as Rayna James following the series’ cancellation on ABC last May 2016.
