Determining when “Overlord” season 4 is getting released remains an impossible task at this point. On the other hand, the same title light novel series could give fans some clues on the stories to unfold next and the possible change in the anime’s pacing. If there is something that the next light novel volumes are telling anime fans, it is that something is shocking about Ainz’s fate will be announced.

Overlord’ season 4 prediction, spoilers

Each season of the anime was based on three light novel volumes. However, fans expect the formula to change for “Overlord” season 4 because it would mean an awkward finale. If the same pacing is to be followed, season 4 would then cover volumes 10 to 12. But volume 12 is the first half of “The Paladin of the Holy Kingdom” arc. A fan suggests that ending season 4 with only the part 1 could lead to an anticlimactic season 4 finale.

Again, there is no way of knowing yet how the producers will tackle “Overlord” season 4. But the mentioned fan suggestion has a point. It is also important to note that the end of volume 11 offers a more fitting anime finale since that part of the light novel ended with a very shocking announcement.

Volume 11 ended with a flash-forward sequence and showed Lupusregina Beta arriving in the newly rebuilt Carne Village. She then talked to Enri and reported that her master, Ainz, may have died in battle. Anyone who has caught up with the latest events in the light novel would probably agree that this is a more exciting note to end “Overlord” season 4 on instead of the last sequence in volume 12.

However, taking that direction would mean drastic changes in the anime adaptation and its future installments beyond “Overlord” season 4. It also poses a question on how it might affect the pacing of the story per episode since Madhouse has been animating three volumes exactly for 13 episodes in the previous years.

Overlord’ season 4 renewed or canceled?

“Overlord” season 4 is, technically, not confirmed yet. But the franchise is still one of the well-known isekai series in the anime and light novel industries. It is then impossible for its anime adaptation to end abruptly.

There is enough material to create another 13-episode installment. But producers likely want more light novel volumes to be released first before starting the production of “Overlord” season 4.
