Although the Pixel 7a is not expected to launch until 2023, alleged renders revealing its design have already leaked before this year ends. And as many expected, it will likely look identical to Google's flagship phones from the Pixel 7 series.
The images were shared by the well-established source OnLeaks (via Smartprix). And the Pixel 7a design is practically a copy of the regular Pixel 7, but with a few details that should remind future users that it is a mid-range model.
The Pixel 7a will still feature a camera bar, along with a few changes implemented on the Pixel 7 series. When Google first introduced the camera bar in Pixel 6, it was mainly protected by a glass panel. However, in the phones released this year, Google replaced the glass with a metal finish. This week’s leak suggests the same change is happening for the upcoming mid-range phone. A Google logo also appears in the back, at the center of the device.
Google fans will also find the front of the Pixel 7a familiar. The selfie camera will still be placed in a hole-punch cutout at the top-middle part of the display. But some design elements will make it easier to distinguish from the regular Pixel 7. The bezels are reportedly thicker, especially in the chin area, which is not surprising because the same has been implemented in previous Pixel A-series phones.
The leak also dismissed any hopes for a 3.5mm headphone jack. The report said, while there were claims that the port will return in Pixel 7a, materials where the leaked renders were based do not show any sign of its existence.
Placements of other buttons are expected to remain where they are currently in the Pixel 6a. The power button and volume controls will be on the right side of the device, while the SIM tray will be on the right. The power button is unlikely to house the fingerprint reader since Google has already brought the under-display optical sensor to the Pixel 6a earlier this year.
The report also noted that the Pixel 7a's dimensions will almost be similar to its predecessor at 152.4 x 72.9 x 9.0mm. The thickness on the part where the camera bar is will be 10.1mm thickness.
It is still unknown when the Pixel 7a will be released. But seeing that Google brought back the A-series launch to May earlier this year, an early 2023 announcement is possible.
