A Belgian telecom website reveals detailed specifications, pricing, and design of Samsung's upcoming Galaxy A55 smartphone before its European launch.
Samsung Galaxy A55: Upgraded Design, Enhanced Performance, and Exciting New Features Revealed Before Launch
GSMArena was the first to identify the leak, which validates earlier speculation that the Galaxy A55 will replace its predecessors' plastic construction with a higher-quality metal and glass framework. This represents a substantial design and quality improvement for the Samsung A-series midrange devices.
In addition to being marginally more significant than the Galaxy A54, the phone has the following specifications: 161.1 x 77.4 x 8.2mm and a weight of 213 grams.
According to Android Authority, the Galaxy A55 will reportedly be equipped with Samsung's Exynos 1480 processor, 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. Nonetheless, the listing indicates that storage can be expanded to a maximum of 1 terabyte using a microSD card.
It is specified that the Galaxy A55 features a 6.6-inch Super AMOLED display. Significantly, in place of the antiquated waterdrop notch, the portrait camera on the Galaxy A54 now features a contemporary punch-hole design centered on the device.
The camera configuration is consistent with the Galaxy A54: a 5MP macro camera, a 50MP primary sensor, and a 12MP ultrawide lens. However, the portrait front-facing camera remains at 32 megapixels.
The Galaxy A55 maintains its predecessor's rapid wired charging capability and 5,000mAh battery capacity. Additionally, it will almost certainly ship with Android 14 pre-installed. Now that most of the specifications have been disclosed, the only remaining concerns are whether the phone will support wireless charging and the official US launch date and price.
Previous sources indicate the phone could begin at €449 (approximately $470), with pricing in the United States anticipated to be comparable to that of the Galaxy A54, which debuted at $449.
The official unveiling of the Galaxy A55 by Samsung in Europe is scheduled for March 11, so we should be able to learn the remaining specifications quickly.
Samsung Officially Confirms Release Date for Galaxy A55 and Galaxy A35 on March 11
Samsung has confirmed that the Galaxy A55 and Galaxy A35 will be released on March 11. The confirmation was issued by the Samsung India X/Twitter account. To receive notifications prior to the launch event the following Monday, you can also register on a microsite the company has set up. The website discloses a few intriguing details regarding the devices, including Android enhancements.
In 2024, the Galaxy A55 and Galaxy A35 will dominate Samsung's midrange smartphone lineup. Over the past few months or so, there have been numerous disclosures concerning the two upcoming smartphones. On multiple occasions, Android Headlines leaked the devices' official renders and critical specifications. The organization has formally declared a release date for the mid-range duo following comprehensive disclosures.
According to Samsung India, the Galaxy A55 and Galaxy A35 will reportedly become official on Monday, March 11, at 2:30 PM local time (IST). On Monday, that is 1:00 AM PT, 4:00 AM EST, and 9:00 AM GMT. Based on past performance, the devices are not expected to be available for purchase for at least another week. Their dissemination in the United States could take even longer. The Galaxy A54 debuted on March 15, was distributed worldwide on March 24, and arrived in U.S. stores on April 6 last year.
Although a release date for the Galaxy A55 and Galaxy A35 may not be disclosed until their official debut, Samsung has already dispelled several speculations surrounding these devices. The Key Island design will be implemented on both handsets, featuring a raised frame surrounding the volume and power controls. An antenna line appears on the Galaxy A55's frame in a teaser video posted to X, further corroborating the device's metallic construction. The alternative model retains its plastic frame.
Samsung Sets New Standards with Galaxy A55: Robust Features and Unprecedented Support
In addition, Samsung emphasizes its robust gaming processor, enhanced low-light photography capabilities, Knox Security, water resistance (presumably IP67), and the provision of four Android OS updates and five security updates. This is the least supported for Galaxy devices. Prominent models, beginning with the Galaxy S24, are entitled to security and Android updates for seven years. Midrangers are not currently receiving extended support.
Enhanced photography capabilities, a metallic exterior, and a more recent processor might not be the only noteworthy improvements for the Galaxy A55. Samsung reportedly intends to release a phone variant with 12GB of RAM, as indicated by a new Geekbench entry. It would be the first smartphone in its price range to include 12GB of RAM. The Korean company will soon unveil the device officially.
