Fans are still more than a year away from seeing “Star Wars: Episode 9.” But some of the most exciting details are now revealed including Finn’s (John Boyega) use of lightsaber as well as how the franchise will honor Carrie Fisher.
In this day and age of high-technology, some fans might have thought it is the producer’s choice in terms of including Fisher in “Star Wars: Episode 9.” But Disney has been very clear that using computer-generated imagery (CGI) is not on the cards.
First, it is confirmed that Carrie Fisher — best known for her Leia Organa role — will be in “Star Wars: Episode 9.” But the producers and writers of the movie series wanted to make sure that they do it with the utmost respect to the fans’ memory of the late actress.
Addressing the issue of Fisher’s “Star Wars: Episode 9” appearance, Walt Disney Studios confirmed, “The role of Leia Organa will once again be played by Carrie Fisher, using previously unreleased footage shot for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” The entertainment company firmly reiterated that recasting the role or using CGI was never an option. Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd, also gave her “support and blessing” to this plan.
Fisher was able to join the production of “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.” Unfortunately, she passed away from cardiac arrest on Dec. 27, 2016, that ultimately prevented her from joining the making of “Star Wars: Episode 9.”
Meanwhile, what happens in “Star Wars: Episode 9” is one of the highly guarded secrets in the pop culture entertainment business. But cast member John Boyega may have revealed a small — but exciting — detail recently.
The character of Boyega is one of the roles introduced later in the movie franchise. And fans looking forward to “Star Wars: Episode 9” also hope that Finn gets more scenes that will further establish his hero status. What better way to do that than showing his abilities to fight with a lightsaber once more? To this, Boyega responded, “We’ve got you in this one bro! TRUST me!”
Other technical details about “Star Wars: Episode 9” have not been announced yet. However, IMDb currently lists the film for a Dec. 20, 2019 premiere date in the United States.
