“Steven Universe” season 6 is coming, at least this was what the show creator, Rebecca Sugar, hinted previously. Then again, it should be noted that Cartoon Network has not officially renewed the series yet.
Moreover, while there were fans who thought that “Steven Universe” season 6 is not happening due to the way the fifth season ended, many are also convinced that there will be more episodes to come after season 5. The “Steven Universe: The Movie” promo was also shown at the end of the previous installment’s finale and this sparked rumors that rather than the sixth season, the movie will mark the end of the series.
However, Rebecca Sugar already clarified that the movie version is not meant to be “Steven Universe” season 6’s replacement. She added that season 5 is not the last so she clearly pointed out that there will be more episodes to come.
As per Den of Geek, Rebecca Sugar along with former executive producer Ian Jones-Quartey said in a podcast that the fifth season’s finale called “Change Your Mind” will have a continuation. The two also talked about the story possibilities for “Steven Universe” season 6 and some fans picked up this information and it opened a discussion about what will happen next.
With what Sugar and Jones-Quartey had said so far, it appears that “Steven Universe” season 6 will show Steven evolving and becoming more mature. The executives said that rather than follow what people want him to be, Steven will realize that he can be just himself.
Further, “Steven Universe” season 6 seems to be a stage for Steven to lead a life according to his will and liking. Of course, he will want to do things correctly thus, this may be a turning point where he will be more responsible for his life’s choices.
“I don't think it's a spoiler to say that this specific arc of Steven, 'Change Your Mind' definitively makes a definitive statement on Steven and who he is and what he thinks he is,” Jones-Quartey shared. “And how he feels about it. And moving forward from now, it's going to be different.”
Finally, Express mentioned that “Steven Universe” season 6 was rumored to return this year. But, it is likely that Rebecca Sugar will release “Steven Universe: The Movie” first.
