The CW president Mark Pedowitz has reassured fans that as long as the Winchester brothers remain intact, “Supernatural” will continue beyond season 14. However, they are not planning to release new spin-offs of the franchise.
Pedowitz attended the Television Press Tour on Monday, where he told media outlets that they are willing to keep the series on air even after “Supernatural” season 14. According to reports, the network president stated that the continuity of the series actually depends on leading cast members Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki.
Ackles plays the older brother Dean Winchester while Padalecki portrays the role of the younger Sam Winchester. Ackles and Padalecki are the only actors who have been on the show since season 1 aired in 2005. With that, it is considerably hard to imagine the show retaining its appeal to its fanbase if one or both actors decide to move one from the series.
On the other hand, Pedowitz did not manifest the same confidence in terms of making another spin-off of “Supernatural.” The network attempted several times to introduce a spin-off series anchored on the success of “Supernatural,” with the latest being “Wayward Sisters.” However, by the looks of it, Pedowitz seemed resolved that they do not need to extend the franchise of “Supernatural” with more spin-off titles.
“We were very happy with the women who were in the ‘Wayward Sisters’ spin-off,” Pedowitz said. “We have a certain number of slots this year. It just did not get there. ‘Supernatural’ may be Jensen and Jared — and there may not be a franchise beyond that.”
Meanwhile, “Supernatural” season 14 is due to air this year. The production is still on a roll but some details about episode 1 were recently revealed.

“Supernatural” season 14, episode 1 is titled “Stranger in a Strange Land.” One of the first teasers came from actor Dean Armstrong, who also said on Twitter, “Hell is coming (back) and it’s bringing me with it.” During the San Diego Comic-Con last month, executive producer Andrew Dabb also confirmed that there will not be a long time jump — only three weeks, to be exact — between the start of “Supernatural” season 14 and where season 13 ended.
The cast and crew of “Supernatural” season 14 started filming in July. The series is set to return on Thursday, Oct. 11, at 8:00 p.m. ET on The CW.
