‘Teen Wolf’ Actor Tyler Hoechlin Explains Exit from Show, Moves on to ‘Fifty Shades Darker’; Dylan O’Brien Needs Body Double?

Tyler Hoechlin played Derek Hale on MTV's 'Teen Wolf' from Season 1-4

‘Teen Wolf’ actor Tyler Hoechlin admitted that he would not be returning for another season of the MTV television series. He has moved on to newer projects that includes ‘Fifty Shades Darker’ and The CW’s ‘Supergirl’. Meanwhile, Dylan O’Brien is rumored to be replaced by a body double as he recovers from injuries sustained while filming ‘The Maze Runner’.

According to Morning Ledger, Hoechlin will not be reprising his role as Derek Hale in the incoming season of ‘Teen Wolf’. Derek was a mysterious werewolf who was featured from the first season through the fourth.

Hoechlin addressed his exit from the show saying, “I actually really enjoyed all the arcs. I thought every season, they gave me something really kind of great and new to play with, so that was definitely never an issue that I had… I always thought they gave me really fun things to play with each season, I really enjoyed it.”

When asked if he would return to play Derek in the incoming season 6 of the supernatural teen drama series on MTV, he reiterated that he had no plans to do so as of the moment. He said, “Oh god. I’m sorry, I would love to make everybody cheer and be happy right now. I don’t have any plans to right now. I kind of feel like where we left the character, at least, when I knew it was going that way, kind of wrapped it up in the passing of the baton on to Scott, is just kind of how I felt like that story ended. I don’t know in which way he would come back into this world, exactly.”

An article from Movie News Guide suggested that Hoechlin’s departure from the series was also attributed to the challenge of playing Derek in all his seriousness. He was challenged at attempting to add more humor to the character.

The 28-year old actor will be moving to the big screen soon enough with the upcoming ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ sequel ‘Fifty Shades Darker’ alongside Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan. He was cast to play Boyce Fox, Anastasia Steele’s co-worker at a publishing house.

Hoechlin will also appear on season 2 of The CW’s ‘Supergirl’ television series as Clark Kent a.k.a. Superman. Season 2 is scheduled to debut on the network on October 2016.

Meanwhile, Dylan O’Brien may be getting a body double for season 6 as he continues to recuperate from serious injuries sustained on the filming set of the dystopian teen cinematic series ‘The Maze Runner’. According to Morning News USA, O’Brien got into a freak accident during a stunt sequence on ‘The Maze Runner: The Death Cure’. Following his accident, he was rushed to a hospital in Vancouver.

While production for the film was delayed due to ongoing safety procedure investigations and O’Brien’s recovery, it is unclear what this has done for production for ‘Teen Wolf’ season 6.

Rumors of a possible body double for the character Stiles Stilinski were fueled by a casting call posted on Facebook that required a “RATE 172/8 PHOTO DOUBLE MALE 18-30.” The post also stated, “Must look like the man in photo Height 5’9-5’11, weight 160-180.”

‘Teen Wolf’ is a supernatural teen drama loosely based on the 1985 film of the same name. It was created for MTV by Jeff Davis. It follows a social outcast teenager bitten by a werewolf and how he copes with the challenges of his new life.
