The show's cast and crew are still filming for “The 100” season 6 but some reports already have a speculation on when the series will return. The premiere date for the next installment is eyed for spring of 2019.
There was a few months' worth of schedule change when season 5 was released. Instead of a first-quarter premiere date, the series began in spring and concluded in early August. The filming for “The 100” season 6 started shortly after.
With the latest schedule the show had, observers speculate that “The 100” season 6 will be released sometime in spring next year. In other words, the sixth installment is likely having the same debut window as season 5.
On the other hand, it can be recalled that there were some worries that the show would not be renewed after season 5. Luckily, The CW ordered “The 100” season 6 right before the latest installment ended.
Based on how season 5 ended, it is quite impossible not to have “The 100” season 6. As showrunner Jason Rothenberg told IGN, “In my mind, the end of Book One means the first five seasons were Book One of the encyclopedia of 'The 100' adventures and Book Two begins as they set down on this new planet next year."
If this is a new start, is there a chance that the show will go beyond “The 100” season 6? To this, The CW president Mark Pedowitz gave quite a reassuring answer.
During the Television Critics Association summer press tour, Pedowitz told E! that he “doubts” “The 100” season 6 will be the end of the series. "Jason [Rothenberg]'s doing a remarkable job of revitalizing the show and I hope it can go on for a long time," he added.
And in the event that The CW decides to close the curtains on the series (hopefully beyond “The 100” season 6), Pedowitz implied they will give Rothenberg ample time to work on a proper closure, just like they did for "iZombie" and "Jane the Virgin."
The events in “The 100” season 6 are still quite hard to predict. However, one giveaway is the exploration of a new world previewed in the season 5 finale. Jason Rothenberg also revealed that the production crew spent a lot of effort in building the new set for the planet where the characters will be spending most of their time in “The 100” season 6.
